1998 Boxart

Princess Maker: Pocket Daisakusen is a puzzle game developed by NINELIVES and released in 1998 for the PlayStation. Starring the first three daughters of the series, they each set out to become a Princess. Unlike most games in the franchise (even the other Spin Off, Go!Go! Princess), there is little to no raising aspect in this game. It features four main modes: Story Mode, Round Robin Mode (Fighting everyone in the Roster one at a time), Versus Mode (Either against a Computer or Another Player) as well as an Endless Mode (playing by yourself until you Top Out).

Gameplay[]

Chaining 3 attacks together

The gameplay is very similar to Puyo Puyo. The premise is you drop sets of 3 gems of varying colors onto the board, and if you match 4 or more gems, the matched gems will be removed from the board. If a gem is placed in the 14th row of the 3rd or 4th column (ie: being unable to place all 3 gems onto the board), you lose. Consecutively chaining attacks (matches), will reward more points and drop junk into your enemies' board. Junk can be cleared by matching pieces next to it.

Pocket Daisakusen Sidebar

The sidebar has 19 gems. One more, and a roulette will start.

Unique to Pocket Daisakusen, however, is the ability to "hold" your pieces- by pressing the L1/R1 button, you are able to "rotate" your pieces on the z-axis. The pieces that are behind are then moved to the side of the game board. If two identical pieces touch in the sidebar, they'll be removed. By holding 20 pieces this way, a slot will show up, determining the next set of pieces, with the middle slot guaranteeing a "Special Gem" that can do a variety of effects.

Characters[]

Pocket Daisakusen features a roster of 19 characters, 2 of which are unlockable.

This roster consists of:

Courses[]

In Pocket Daisakusen, you have the options of Easy, Standard, and Difficult Courses. Each course (sans Easy) yields a different ending and CG, though every daughter generally has the same set.

Easy Course[]

  • Ariel (1)
  • Patricia (2)
  • Fairy Queen (3)

At the end, the daughter (and by extension, You) will be encouraged to try a higher course. There is no CG

Once you defeat the Mole Prince, Uzu will challenge your chosen daughter, to determine if she's worthy of the Difficult Course. If you win, you'll be told to proceed to the Difficult Course, and be awarded a CG of your chosen daughter with flowers. If you lose, she'll marry the Mole Prince (who turns into a Human once your daughter gives him a kiss)

Difficult Course[]

While the roster is identical, the paths are different:

      1. Right: Anita (7)

      1. Right: Chiya (7)
      2. Left: Haming (7)

At the end of the difficult course, you'll face the Prince, your eighth opponent. Once you defeat him, he'll propose to your daughter. For Maria and Lisa, this is a definite "yes". If your daughter is Olive, Cube (as the final opponent) will come to give his congratulations. By losing, not much will happen, and Olive will thank him for showing up, and then marry the prince as expected. If you win, Olive has the option to 'suddenly realize' that she should be happy with who she really loves. (with the other option being identical to losing). Unlocking Cube only requires his defeat, not viewing his ending.

After the daughter accepts the Prince's proposal (or after Cube's shock to hearing Olive saying she loves him), Uzu will show up and give his comments.
